A. Bad news for credit card users in Pakistan - Check FBR's update (KC: Attachment 3303.1)
Further to KQU 3587 of 6.10.25, being an important matter, we would inform you about Samaa TV titled Bad news for credit card users in Pakistan - Check FBR's update* (Attachment 3303.1) in the ensuing paragraph, in Italic with emphasis in bold & Underline, heading ours for quick reading and para matter in brackets and Italic also owns for better understanding.
2. The FBR has tightened its grip on non-filers who use credit (KC: Debit Cards as well as own views) cards for shopping, as over two lakh individuals have been identified making monthly transactions through their cards.
3. Sources confirmed that the FBR has started collecting detailed records of credit card transactions to assess the real income of non-filers. Commercial banks across the country have begun sharing data of credit card users with the tax authority.
4. Officials said the move aims to ensure transparency and hold accountable those who continue to evade taxes despite significant spending patterns.
5. According to sources, individuals filing income tax returns will now be required to include details of all their shopping made through credit cards. The step is part of a broader effort to verify declared incomes against actual spending habits.
6. The FBR has emphasized that taxpayers should file their income tax returns honestly by 15.10.25, warning that the extended deadline will not be prolonged further.
7. Sources added that notices will be sent to individuals who spend large sums through credit cards but fail to file their returns. Authorities will also take action against those conducting online business transactions or making large digital payments after the deadline.
B. Credit Card Users Spending over Rs 200,000 Now under FBR Radar (KC: Attachment 3303.2 & has deleted duplicate part)
1. Credit card users (KC: Debit Card users too) making heavy purchases are now under the radar of the FBR. The tax authority has begun collecting records of credit card transactions, tightening its focus on non-filers.
2. According to officials, individuals spending more than Rs 200,000 a month through credit cards will have to explain their expenses. Commercial banks have started sharing customer data with the FBR, while taxpayers have been instructed to declare details of their card-based shopping in income tax returns.
3. The FBR has directed all filers to submit their returns by October 15 deadline will not be moved further. To pressurize tax defaulters, the authority has also started sending SMS reminders.
4. Officials said that credit card spending will help them trace the real income of non-filers. After the deadline, strict action will be initiated against those running businesses or making large online payments without filing returns.
5. Notices will also be issued to people spending millions through cards but failing to declare their income.
6. In a parallel development, the FBR has started sending SMS alerts to tax defaulters, reminding them of the approaching deadline. Officials noted that those who fail to submit accurate details or ignore tax obligations may face legal action.
They clarified that credit card spending will now be used to assess a person’s actual financial capacity and spending behavior. FBR officials stressed the importance of providing accurate information regarding all bank transactions in income tax returns.
C. Credit Card Data Mandatory in Tax Returns (KC: Attachment 7161 .3 & has deleted duplicate part)
1. The FBR has intensified its monitoring of non-filers who use credit cards for regular shopping and high-value transactions.
2. The move aims to ensure financial transparency and bring habitual tax evaders into the formal tax system through better data integration.
3. Sources said that income tax filers will now be required to disclose all shopping and payments made through credit cards in their annual returns.
4. The measure is part of a broader effort by the FBR to compare declared incomes with actual spending habits and detect underreporting.
5. The FBR has urged taxpayers to file their returns honestly before the October 15 deadline, warning that no further extension will be granted.
6. It also emphasized that all declared information will be cross-verified with banking and transaction data to prevent misreporting.
7. In another development, FBR has begun sending SMS alerts and notices to tax defaulters (KC: Notice has not been for TY 2025 but earlier years), reminding them of their obligations.
8. Officials said that individuals who make large digital or credit card transactions but fail to file returns may face strict legal consequences.
